Author in Residence: Trai’Quan

At fifty-three, Trai’Quan writes from a lifetime spent on the far edges of the map. A lifelong reader who has crossed from the sprawling epics of Robert Jordan to the relentless suspense of Dean Koontz, he threads that inheritance of scope and tension through his own work. His fiction lives where dark fantasy bleeds into dark science fiction, in ruined futures and haunted cities where every bargain has a cost and every miracle is paid for in blood.

On the page, Trai’Quan is less interested in heroes than in survivors: broken prophets, reluctant monsters, and people who keep walking long after the light has gone out. His prose favors atmosphere over ornament, slow-burning dread over spectacle, inviting the reader to step through the gate and linger in the charged quiet before everything changes.

Published Works

  • Second World — A fractured reality thriller in which the borders between worlds thin, and every escape route opens onto a deeper, more unforgiving realm.
  • Gangsta Grip — A street-level descent into power, loyalty, and consequence, where the city itself feels like a watching, hungry god.
  • Darkness Falls — An unflinching exploration of what crawls out when the last light dies, and the human heart must decide what it will become in the dark.
  • Alibi: Unshakable — A taut, shadow-soaked narrative of crime, memory, and the lies we build to survive the worst we’ve done.

Genres & Specialties

  • Dark fantasy that trades in blood-bound pacts, cursed lineages, and cities built on secret histories.
  • Dark science fiction set in fractured timelines, failing empires, and futures haunted by the choices we almost survived.
  • Character-driven narratives focused on survivors, outcasts, and those who carry the cost of other people’s miracles.
  • Slow-burn tension, immersive worldbuilding, and a cinematic sense of shadow and light on the page.

Coming Soon

Trai’Quan is currently working on several untitled works in both dark fantasy and dark sci-fi. These new books deepen the Obsidian Gate Press aesthetic with intersecting worlds, echoing timelines, and recurring figures who move, often unknowingly, under the same gathering shadow. Expect converging mythologies, futures that remember us a little too well, and stories that unfold like a series of closed doors — until one of them finally opens. Titles, covers, and first-look excerpts will be unveiled here as each project emerges from the dark.

Other Obsidian Gate Authors
